Mark, I got one seed of 'Daj Giant' to sprout last year. It is a really nice-looking banana! I'll be planting mine out this year. Here it was a few weeks ago in the greenhouse:
How many seeds did you plant. I planted 100. My germination for regular sikkimensis was only 5 out of 50 last year, compared to 41 out of 50 Cheesmani. I also planted some butterfly ginger seeds to give them a try. Your banana looks Great! How long did it take to get to that size? I read they grow really fast
I think I had 20 seeds planted, but it may have only been 10. It took a while to sprout (several months), and a year later I have had zero germination out of the rest of them. You should have some good success with 100 seeds, as long as you keep them at an alternating temp. cycle. Mine is not quite a year old. It germinated sometime late last winter, and I've had it in pots since then. It was sort of slow-growing at first, but then it really took off. They are quite fast! Good luck with yours.
njoasis, you must be thinking about regular Musa sikkimemsis. 'Daj Giant' seeds have only been available for a couple of years or so.
I also love these bananas and they really outpaced basjoo last summer. Mine are protected and I hope they return. The plantts are kind of hard to find, and I have no luck or patience for banana seed.Hope to find some pups (not TC) for sale.
