Which one is the true 'Brazilian'?

Hello folks,

I would like to get the Musa that is actually grown in Brazil - I grew up eating its delicious fruit (can't even compare to the ones sold here in gorcery stores!). I've been doing some research and I think it's the "Musa Paradisiaca". Is that correct?

If so, will this plant thrive in so CA? And how long does it take to bear fruit?

No that is not correct. If you grow a Musa paradisica you will get a seeded banana. There a quite a few bananas that are grown in the US and in Brazil. Try Brazilian, Apple, Orinico, and probably a few others.

Tropicallvr, thanks for the info. I saw one at the nursery being sold as "Dwarf Brazilian". Is that going to bear edible fruit?
