I'm quite new to bananas too (only started 2 years ago). With Spring here and Summer coming, maybe your local stores there might have bananas. I got mine from K-Mart, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's and any local nurseries that have them. I usually like to purchase them locally, so I know the exact condition of the plants. Once I got a diseased one from K-mart, I brought it back and they gave me refund for it. I've not ordered any bananas online yet. Maybe the others here can tell you more about ordering online.

For a small banana, there's the dwarf Cavendish and the super dwarf ones. I have both of these and they seem to thrive pretty well. They're also more hardy than most of my other more exotic species. I would say start with these and play around for a while and see how it goes from there. I see you're in a colder zone, so I suppose you're going to plant it in a pot and bring it out in the summer? I plant most of mine outdoors, so I can't say much about growing them indoors. Hope you find a nice banana to plant soon.
