Is my Red Velvet Dying?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to bananas and am so sad... I've had my plant now for almost a month now, maybe a little longer and it was doing terrifically. It got to me with two leaves, started growing a third while at the same time shed one. The two were healthy looking and one started withering again and I thought it must be part of the process, and soon another new leaf would sprout again.

But then they both dried up and shriveled away! Is it dead? Does it still have some hope left? Can I revive it?

Could this have happened because the pot is too little? I haven't had a chance to buy it a new one yet... Did I over water? Not enough humidity, it can get dry in here.

Should I pull some of the brown skin back? I read on one of the forums something about doing this and there might be some green in there... something about a corm; do i have to wait for next winter to redo whatever i would have to do with it? It's an indoor plant, why wait?

Here are some pics:
