Im trying blue java for the first time this year. So far they dont like the sun too much, but I think it will get used to it as the summer goes on. Not a very fast grower in a pot, but I think once I get mine in the ground, its going to rocket off. A good sized plant can give you fruit in just 3 years and they are suppose to taste MUCH better than the common supermarket bananas.

Banana growing is a lot of fun. I havent fruited any bananas yet, but its probably a great feeling to get fruit from your own tree. It is also a really nice tropical looking plant that easily fits in California landscapes because so many people grow them.

There are many great types of bananas out there, the blue java is a favorite by many, and so are 1000 fingers, praying hands, cavendish, basjoo (by northern growers), Eneste maurelli (for ornamental purposes), orinocco,ae ae (thats an expensive one, but very beautiful plant and fruit), and there are many other nice ones too.
