Banana Problem - Split peels

I have 3 banana plants and all are producing bananas. Last summer (my first ever harvest) I had as many as 6 bunches at one time. A problem I've had is that, while still growing on the tree, the skin splits along the length of several bananas in the bunch, attracting bugs and prematurely ripening (tuning brown). This also damages adjacent bananas.

I would like to know if there is something I can do to minimize this problem. If I harvest the bananas too early, they never ripen. It is difficult to cut out the offending bananas because the bunches are too dense. Could it be a nutritional problem or perhaps a watering problem?

Thanks

P.S. I'm not sure of the variety of the plants and could use some help identifying them.
