Move to Costa Rica, when it is 90+ everyday. Otherwise your optiona are Monthan, San Jose, Sweetheart for larger bananas.

Thanks pitangadiego, as it happens I planted a Sweetheart Banana a couple of weeks ago.The temperature in winter on occasions drops to about 25 - 26 degrees farenheit so I am in the cooler part of zone 9b.Has any one had success with the "San Jose" Banana in this Zone.

It is not widely distributed - brought from Costa Rica by a friend years ago. Cold tolerance unknown.

no bananas,as stated above will not be as big as store bought here in CA,as we just dont get hot and humid enough.
i have many varieties,and have found that the biggest is valery.
i would say 2/3rds the size of store bananas.
also,if you limit the plant to one stem and one sucker,this will produce bigger fruit than a whole clump!
i leave mine to clump,as i like the effect.
this said,i still get good size,only trouble is,that when 12 stems fruit,ALL ripen at the same time!
