Uncovering basjoo this weekend

Well gang, last year I set out three basjoos from my original grandma basjoo which rotted after four years here in the ground of wet/cold mountainous WV.

One I did not touch, only cut back, one I covered with a large terra cotta chimney pipe with a trash can inverted over, the last I covered with a huge nursery pot full of dry leaves punched with air holes in the sides only. We'll see how this goes.

I still keep several babies from my original as insurance and keep them as house plants and classroom plants. So many people write about how they don't do real well inside, but I've never lost one indoors. I do find that they get mites really easy and I soap spray them to get rid of that.

Good luck to all you others who are uncovering your bananas this spring,

Chris
