fruiting dwarf cavendish

I have a dwarf Cavendish banana I purchased from Home depot a little over a year ago. It is about three feet tall (super dwarf Cavendish?) with about 6 healthy leaves and has three pups around its base that are about 1/2 to 2/3 the size of the mother stalk. The plant is in a large pot (18" deep x 20" wide), spends its summers in full sun outdoors, spends it winters in the brightest southern window indoors, and receives miracle grow at the box recommended rate during the summer. I have a couple questions:

1) Is there any particular growing conditions, fertilizers, etc. that would promote flowering/fruiting?

2) Will leaving the pups on the mother plant inhibit flowering by sucking nutrients away from her?
