| I just checked my M. ensete ventricosum sseedlings and noticed the roots are coming up out of the soil. They just sprouted four days ago. Any ideas?

| Normally in banana plantations this is called high matting. It normally occurs when the corm is to near the soil level and not deep enough. This can ruin a good banana crop in windy areas. Since your seedling is new, I would hesitate to call this. Banana roots consist of an explorer root and a feeder root. The explorer root's job is to anchor the plant in place. The feeder roots which grow off of the main roots are responsible for taking in water and nutrients. I wouldn't worry too much about it, as your new banana is getting acclimated to the soil. Keep an eye out for any signs of drying. Good luck with your banana! |
