Mulch and Fertilizer for bananas

bananafan

I've started a new triangular banana patch at the corner of my northeast fencing a couple of months ago. I slowly added in the different bananas and also some tropical flowering bushes to make the whole thing look tropical. Now that the whole area is covered with mulch, I've been wondering how I should apply the fertilizer. The fertilzer I have now is the solid kind that you spread around. Should I spread it on top of the mulch or do I uncover the mulch to do it? Or should I get some water soluble one to water on the plants? I will post a picture soon. The only bummer is I got my digital camera rained on few days ago and the camera has gone hay wired now. Am in the process of getting a new one. Anyway, would appreciate any advice/suggestion on how best to fertilize my new banana patch. Thanks so much.
