For greater DC area growers - banana alert!

At local Home Depots they are now carrying Musa basjoo (12-inch plants) in 1-gal. and Ensete 'Maurelii' (Red Abyssinian Banana), both for abaout $10. This is a first for 'my' Home Depot in Merrifield. Also what looks like Colocasia antiquorum 'Illustris'.

If you have always wanted to grow a Musa 'Bordelon', Merrifield Nursery out near Fairfax County Parkway (on Lee Highway) now has it in stock. $10 for one gal container.

Also, if anyone is interested in acquiring larger basjoos, I've dug up about eight large pups and have them in pots. The tallest is over 6 feet already. These are starting to put out their first leaves. Now's the time to put them in the ground! They all have nice large bulbs. Some of these have multiple pups already. Would sell cheap! Contact me if interested: klemmd(at)georgetown(dot)edu.

Here were my basjoos in August of '06. They were around 15ft+ tall.
