For those who don't know, this is said to be a hybrid between "musa chini champa" and "Musa sikkimensis" growing at altitude around the himalayas.
Musa chini champa is supposed to have black/dark brown pseudostems and good quality fruit. Musa sikkimensis is quite cold hardy, and grows well in cool weather.
Naturally, this makes the heart of northern banana-growers beat an extra beat. I doubt I will harvest bananas here in Bergen though!
My experiences growing this plant from seed has been nothing less than astonishing. I started with 100 seeds in January. Almost 50 % sprouted in under a month and then a few others have come up now. Interestingly, there are allways 2 or 3 shoots coming out of 1 single seed.
The larger plant is from the first ones that sprouted, and the others are sprouts still in their germination box. It will be fun to see how they perform under the midnight sun!
