Is it really alive? If it is the case, the temperature in
April and May should have been too low to produce leaves.
Or it just looks to be alive, but inside of the pseudostem
the center rolled new young leave might have been rotten
for various reasons.

I think the reason is one of the 2 or 2 of the 2.

It is still alive, it has one green leaf. It has been cold and hot during April, and may was warm, and now it is 80s for the highs, and around 65 during the nights. Its pseudostem doesn't look harmed.

Hi Lee,

I had exactly same experience. The pseudostem did not look
harmed at all and still got one green leaf, so I waited,
waited and waited firmly believing new young leaves would
come out. But finally nothing happened. So I dared to cut
the top of the p.stem little by litte until a center rolled
white young leaf was seen. If the center is completely white, it may be alright, but if you find even any tiny spot of black or brown color, you should porceed to cut
further down till this color disappeares where you stop
cutting down and see if new young leaf sprouts.
