I have a patch of Praying Hands banana. They're one of the fastest growing bananas I have in my yard. They're also one of the more cold hardy ones. I started with one plant and and now I have a whole family of 6. I have had the same problem with my Kru and Sweet Heart. I cut the pseudostem in the midpoint and new growth appeared after that. I did that to my Sweet heart and there's new growth now. I don't want to say that it will definitely work for you, but if you want to try, there's a chance you may get some new growth. Once you see new growth, you can start fertilizing it. Mind you, if you leave it to its own, it will soon grow into a huge patch. I had to chop off some of the pups growing close to my fence so my fence won't get damaged.

Thanks, Bananafan, After I read your answer I went out with the pruning saw and cut off the top half of the stem. Then I was going to dig up the slacker and move it to my vegetable garden and replace it with a new banana tree (some other variety) that I bought the other day. When we pulled back the mulch there was a tiny stem poking out of the soil about an inch. So we put the mulch back and left it alone...I'm going out to fertilize it now, and hope the cutback brings out some more growth at the bottom. I would love to have a huge patch of them.
