Old corm, too many pups, what to do?

Last year as I dug up my trio of DC in the front yard I noticed they were oddly attached to each other. To my surprise they were still growing from the old mother corm from last year. I figured they would have used it up and separated somehow. They snapped apart easily and I found that a young pup actually belonged to the "mother" and not one of the three large plants. I knew I couldn't throw it out so I potted it up and watered sparingly through winter. The pup died back but my patience paid off and this spring the corm took to pupping. Now there are 8 or 9 water leaf pups and I don't know what to do. I know they can't be separated till larger but they are so slow with so many fighting for resources. I was thinking of just cutting the group right down the middle and repotting into 2 groups. Any other suggestions. I don't think clipping some at dirt level will help much as they will just try to recover and grow again.
