Are these plants in the ground or a container? If containerized, is it possible they are ready for a larger container? Unless your bananas are underwater, I don't see how you can OVER water a banana in July, in Dallas though. I water mine every day (hot and dry with moderate drought conditions in the East but humid)--both those in the ground and the ones in containers. Bananas are greedy for both water and food so don't forget fertilizing (use high nitrogen--which I believe orchid fertilizer is--??) The brown, crispy leaves situation may be related to low humidity levels for these jungle plants (not a problem here). I have to tell you though (and I know many growers reports otherwise), but I do not find my basjoos to be very vigorous growers either. I too find myself disappointed by there seeming lack of vigor. I have other varieties (Dwarf Giant, or 'Enano Gigante', Orinoco, M. sikkimensis--Himalayans, and even the SUPER DWARFS that are just taking off this year. Maybe it's just too hot for these more temperate growers--I don't know. Good luck!
