Musa Basjoo with crunchy brown/black leaves

I bought some musa Basjoo plants several months ago. I wasn't getting the growth rate I expected, but at least they were still green. I started fertilizing with Orchid Fertilizer (20-14-13) and increased the amount I water (I live in Dallas and it has been hot and dry). Initially, they perked up and starting looking great, but now the leaves are brown and black and crispy. Am I over watering? How much should I be watering, how often should I fertilize? Or am I overwatering?
