Got my new corms....now what?

Well I got my HUGE corms/pups today, over 3 feet tall each! And ready to plant into the yard. But should I plant them in the yard soil, just as it is, (it is all sand here in Fla). Or amended it with topsoil or some kind of peat moss or other amendment to get it off to a better start? They already grow great in the soil here, but since it has been a long time since I planted a new corm/pup, I forgot if I should add anything to the soil,or just let it grow in the soil it came from, it was grown locally, so it is the same soil, but it is probably much richer than mine, from old leaves and maybe mulching,I am sure they must amend their soil to grow bananas to sell corms/pups. They say to water it in ONCE, then not water it again till the leaves start to show. But it is SO hot here, shouldnt I keep them wet? Or does that risk the corms' cut rotting?
