| Is it Cypress? Is it Madeira? Or maybe the Canaries?
No, it's actually Iceland!!! They are further north than me! I am having trouble believing it myself! But take a look! |

| Wait a moment! That wording is ambiguous. It can mean 1. the largest producer in Europe or 2. the largest producer to Europe I would have guessed most bananas consumed in Europe are imported from Asia. |
|
| Dilbert, Most bananas consumed in europe are from central and south america (mostly colombia/costa rica/dominican rep) Simon |

| Answer number 1 is most likely correct. I have certainly never seen icelandic bananas in the stores. Anyway, hope iceland treats their plantation-workers a little better than some big producers in the americas. Europe hardly imports any bananas from Asia, most bananas come from central and south America. |

| While in Norway a few years ago, we saw some nice banana plants growing inside the Bergen Botanical Gardens greenhouse. Unfortunately it was closed that day; I would have loved to talk to the caretakers. Paul. |

| Flatwoods, so you've been to Bergen! Hope you liked the city, in spite of high prices and rain! Those bananas growing in that greenhouse are actually musa sikkimensis. They came from india a very long time ago as pups, and still produce pups and fruit continuosuly. I have tasted the bananas too, they are as they say sweet but full of hard seeds. Erlend |

| "Europe hardly imports any bananas from Asia, most bananas come from central and south America" I wonder why. I expect transportation costs to be cheaper from India and southern China. |

| Dilbert; I suspect part of the reason are global companies such as Chiquita and Dole, having most of the worlds market and most of their farms in these areas. I have heard from somewhere that southeast asia is plagued with various diseases too. But someone else might know more about this than me. Erlend |
