Did the kids kill the Ensete?

So I just came out to find the kids "helping" my newly transplanted red leaved banana, and they pulled old fronds (leaves?) down to the inner white part.... Is it toast? Is there anything I can do to save it?

Ensetes are very durable and resilient. I chop mine down to 6 foot stumps every Fall to store them in my basement (see pics of some I just posted).
