over wintering

Hi, I'm new on here, but there seems to be alot of knowledge on here about bananas. We've had the hardy(ish) bananas for 5 or so years, having planted them out 2 years ago, and we over winter them by cutting off all the leaves, and wrapping them in straw contained with wire mesh. They've been fine so far, but this year we bought a Red Banana and a Chinese Yellow Banana. Both are in large pots, and I just want to onow what to do with them this winter? It can get cold here, -5 to -10, so frost and snow are common. The label for the Red banana says to cut it down for the winter. Will a 'plastic green house' offer adequate protection for the winter, or should it be taken in. Would a garage be enough protection, tho there will be no light. Will it ned water during this period if it is inside. The Chinese yellow says the 'mother will die in the winter, but off shoots will appear in spring'. Does this mean it can stay out all winter?
