Banana tree spreading

My uncle gave me 6 banana plants (not sure of the type) that he dug up out of his yard. Could someone tell me if banana trees spread and are they easily controlled?

Banana plants will have pups to make a clump. They are very easy to remove to control the size of the clump.

With proper thinning, you can keep the clump to about 4' in diameter.

Or you can keep it to one stem, two stems, three stems. It is up to your preferences. I have from two stems to a small clump to a large clump. You want at least one pup to replace the original planting. Have fun!

I have two clumps with 12 and 22 stems. The larger was getting too close to the A/C unit so I dug and removed several stems to give away at last spring's swap. They just keep growing new pups.
