Several years ago I salvaged (scrounged) a couple of banana plants from a rubbish pile. They took off great in my yard but didn't produce any fruit for maybe 2 years. Last year I got only 2 blooms from about 8 plants and no fruit, the little juicy blooms just dropped off. This year I've gotten several nice blooms but still only 2 to 3 hands from each stalk. I've had to pick the stalks because the plant bends over and dies.

The fruits don't seem to ripen, just darken and stay pretty starchy and "icky".

I fertilized with fruit tree sticks but it was really dry up until August here in central Fla. The plants themselves look beautiful, lush leaves and huge plant base.
