depends on what your plans are? As a rule I dig my plants up just before first frost or sometimes during the first frost if it comes sooner than I'm ready, But I have lots of plants so I got to do a lot of digging to overwinter them in my basement. You can take a pup from mother plant safely after it has a couple of leaves. Transplant into ground or pot it until it gets a good root system started.

The banana tree I have is a perennial for my zone. I leave it outside and mulch heavily. It made it thru its first winter. Now it has multiplied and so thick. Can I dig it up and replanted the pups? Would spring be the better time to do this?
