Yeah that's a big boy you got there. I've never had much luck with them. Maybe they don't do well in hot humid weather? Do you give it a lot of water? I've always wanted to grow them big here but I do MUCH better with pretty much all varieties of Musa bananas.

Hi islandbreeze.... I give them tons of water, at least twice per week, and lots of nitrogen throughout the summer. Musa don't do very well in our cool nights here in the mountains.

i had a saba and glaucum that did ok..my maurelli did ok.. but nothing like they usually do..
sigh.. we had some cool nites here.. warmer than you i would think ..but still..just not the summer for tropical plants..
glad yours did well!!!!!! now its time to dig..
my canna musafolia did great though.. im gonna have tons of corms to store overwinter..

Hi Lomodor.... I had the best summer yet with my ensete... due to lots of water and nitrogen. I just stuck them back in the basement for winter. The two biggest ones were so heavy I could not lift them at all. Has to drag them slowly down to the sliding glass door entrance to my basement. The cannas and elephant ears were also awesome this year, especially my canna musafolia. 9-10' tall, some of them. I have two new ensete superbum that I started from small plants that I'm keeping upstairs in the light and heat. They are already growing a very, very thick pseudo-stems and look great! I have been digging up cannas for the last 3 weeks. Still more to go.... You'll have to email me at arctictropical@aol.com.
