Looks like a musa basjoo. Musa basjoos love the sun, but not as much as other bananas. Mine gets morning and early afternoon sun only, but thats still a good 6 hours of direct sun a day. How much water do you give it?

tropicalzone, thanks for confirming mine is a musa basjoo. Due to soil that seems to dry very quickly I water every day on the hottest days othewise about 4-5 times per week to ensure it doesn't dry out completely. The first two years I don't think I fertilized enough. This year I fertilzied with osmocote, liquid 20-20-20 every two weeks or so then applied ammonium sulfate every two weeks. I notice improved growth with the 20% nitrogen.
How tall is your plant and how many years did it take for your to reach it's current size? Our state fair has a very large grove of musa basjoo that are 7 years old now and are around 15 feet tall.
I'm hoping next year is the year my plant will take off and grow nice and tall like all of the photos I have seen of this banana.
