Hello Welcome to the banana forum. I have not yet tried to grow musa from seed, but I am thinking of trying it soon. I do have some unidentified banana plants that are blooming and fruiting. Good luck with your seeds! Happy Gardening
Lets see, fairly simple, soak them for 24-48 hours. Plant in a well draining soil, keep moist for up to 6 months. Temperatures have to flexuate from daytime to nighttime. I had most of mine sprout this year when the daytime temps were about 95* and the night-time temps were 70-75*.
Bananalover Thanks for a clear write up for starting bananas from seed. I am looking forward to getting some seed soon. Have you planted them directly in the soil outdoors, also? Right now our temperatures are right with those you listed. Soon it will get too cold but we will get back to the same temperatures in spring. FYI Our local weather entertainer just said we will hit 100°F this afternoon.
Lie! they are very hard to raise from seed, a propigator is a must, germinate these seeds indoors using moist tissue paper, there is a 50% success rate- :) good luck
Luckily the two you mentioned are the easiest banana seeds to sprout. They don't really require temp fluctuations as do Musa species. They are Ensete species, and you should get sprouts with 3 weeks in any warm spot such as on top of a water heater, or any other warm spot. Musa ensete is Ensete ventricosum
