Dying Banana Plants

Damonh

Last year, I planted 3 Musa sapientum banana plants in 500x500x500 mm square terracotta pots (one in each) and they thrived and grew rapidly to about 1500mm high. They are in a conservatory (I live in Hobart Tasmania 42degS) up against a wall that provides plenty of warmth and are on a computerised watering system.

I case you are wondering why I have them in such southern latitudes, I bought them on spec from a KMart Garden Centre and at the time was very surprised to see them there.

I have had virtually no experience with bananas as they normally do not grow in Tasmania and I was very pleased with my results.

However only recently they started dying off including the new central shoots.

I have fed them with a NPK fertiliser and checked the water and that seems ok.

As I stated, I virtually know nothing about the growing of bananas.

Can someone assist me?
