I heard some grow them indoor in the cold months and then bring them out in the summer and put them in the ground. There have been some success stories. I guess almost all kinds of bananas can be experimented on. Maybe pick on some varieties that are more cold tolerant than the others to start out with. Ice cream seems to be quite hardy. Raja Puri is said to produce fruit quickly. You'll never know until you try it out. I have both of these in the ground, but still patiently waiting for them to fruit.

Orinoco, Ice cream, and Rajapuri are all good. You can't leave them out all year in KY and get fruit though. You have to bring them in for the winter.
Basjoo is cold hardy in KY, and will come back from the roots, or you can protect part of the stalk and get a head start. Likely you won't get fruit though ever, and if you did, it's not a good one to eat. But what a great tropical looking foliage plant! You can't beat it next to the patio or pool for a quick tropical look.
