It definitely won't overwinter in zone 8. Resign yourself to losing it or putting something down on the floor to catch the drips.

I cut the leaves off of my Dwarf Cavendish (except for the center leaf) and store them dormant in the basement. I give them a very small amount of water monthly. Once spring rolls around, I remove any pups (to pot up as give aways) and repot my largest trunk. I had bananas on one of mine this year - - but I kept it well watered and fed to encourage it to fruit.

This is just a theory, but couldn't you cut the stem and leaves off and leave just the corm to overwinter. The foliage should grow back completely for summer.

rhizophora, one could do that as well. Some people prefer to leave on the unfurled leaf to give it a head start in the spring. A green leaf= faster production of chlorophyll for engergy.

Thanks for the info. I cut off all but the unfurled leaves and brought it inside.
