| Hi everyone,
I have a banana plant that I grew from seed - Thompson's if I remember correctly, and the packet stated that it was a Musa Ensete Nana. Since first peeking out of the ground (May 29) and today, it has grown to nearly 5 feet and I'm rather pleased with it. I do have a few concerns/questions about it though, and I hope the experts on this forum will help me.
It's been growing new leaves, each longer and wider than the one before, but it also seems to be losing leaves just as quickly - the whole stem just abruptly folds down and eventually breaks (I've lost 5 leaves so far) Is this normal, or is there something wrong with the care I've been giving it ? It sits in front of a south window, but the light it receives is shaded by a blind.
The color of the leaves is also quite different than all the pictures I've seen - I expected a dark green color but all my leaves (the whole plant, really) is a very bright, light green. Too much or not enough light ?
Lastly, I've read and seen of people who cut down their banana plant completely comes fall; if mine goes on losing leaves as it's doing now, I'm considering doing the same. Would that be a good or bad idea, and would it then grow some "pups" come spring ?
Thanks for your patience reading my long post ! |
