Many sites listed the banana weevil and sugar cane weevils as banana pests in general. They lay their eggs in the corm and the larvae tunnel through, eating and causing damage. Geez the little boogers sure seem to know which plants are the most expensive or precious to us! Perhaps the county extension agent might know of some pesticide to treat the corm, or at least keep them from spreading to your other bananas. Lisa, I have a hundred varieties, and that is the only one that ever croaked on me. Never lost any other in ground banana, and very, very few potted pups. It was 18 months old, about 13' to leaf tip, and in a week went from healthy to yellowing quickly to toast, and 4 pups with it. I feel your pain. Oh, and I didn't replace it.

If you have any part of the corm with a rootlet or two on it and no black bug damage on it, you could try potting that in a flowerpot of well drained dirt and keeping it moist just to see if it will rally and regrow. Nanner's do weird things sometimes.

What a disheartening loss. I hope there is a little bit of corm you can save.
There are a LOT of little critters that can affect naners. That weevil could be one. Even here up 'north' I have had various worms and whatnot eat my naners above and below ground :( I would definitely poke around the soil of your other naners to see who is down there.
