Basjoo winter protection in zone 7b

I have a basjoo that I planted early this spring. It's now huge, probably over 10 feet tall. I want to protect the stem, so it doesn't die back to the ground during the winter. If I do this successfully, does it have a chance of flowering next year? How large might it get? It receives a lot of sun and western exposure against a brick wall. I think this helps it grow so quickly. Also, at about what height will I cut off the leaves after the first mild frost?
