| It looks to me like a super dwarf cavendish. Mine took a reading of 28 before turing to "mush". I think they can probably handle a light frost with only browing of the leaves. They are root hardy to about 15 degrees, so if you want to risk it, it will need alot of mulch and something to keep it from excessive winter moisture. |

| Dwarf cavendish i agree... last year about 40's before it starts to die back. its a smaller banana i would just pot it and bring it in til late march or something, it always works for me then u have a nicely established banana the next spring and sometimes you can loose a bulb... whatever you think is best. thanks -Justin |

Thanks everyone- it is really rainy & cold- about 45* tonight- high 30's this weekend, so I will probably pot it up for the indoors- I don't have a sunny window in the winter- will it be ok in a low light indoor environment? Thanks so much for the great info! kasha77 |

| It should be fine in low light. You could also cut all the leaves off reducing it to a stalk, and keep it dry for the winter. It has to be in a cool room though to keep it from growing (but must be above freezing). In the summer it will bounce back no matter what once it gets hot, but it will take a week or 2 to get used to the hot sun so keep it in the shade when it goes out. good luck! |
my dwarf cavendish banana & Chinese yellow?
| | |
Hi tropicalzone- This is my first banana & she is so beautiful, I really don't want to lose her. I have another banana- someone says it's a Chinese yellow- it's outside too- I will get a photo of it tomorrow & post it here- I was told she would do ok outside in the winter- can you check it out tomorrow & tell me what you think? Thanks for the help! kasha77 |
