Storing over winter: do they need to be horizontal?

Hi. I've dug up my Ensete ventricosum and Musa Dwarf Cavendish, cleaned them off and they are ready for winter storage. We live in a basement flat and don't have a "crawl space" to put them. I was going to keep them in the unheated cellar area but was wondering whether they could go in the shed under the (external) stairs to the house. If I put them in the shed they'd have to be stored vertically - would this be a problem? Neither areas would get any frost, but I'm wondering if the cellar might actually not be cold enough.

Thanks for any advice.
