Results of my banana growth and question.....

Hi All,

This my first year with bananas and plams here in NY. I planted 2 orinocos, 1 dwarf orinoco and 1 basjoo in late April.

All were in size of about 1 foot.

Anyway, my dwarf orinoco grew to about 4 foot with plenty of leaves.

My two regular size orinocos grew to about 6 feet and are awesome looking.

My basjoo on the other hand only went to about 3 feet and the leaves look as if they were growing on top of each other.... pretty strange looking. Isnt the basjoo a quicker grower than the orinocos?

The only thing I can say is that we are now in November and I chopped them down to about 2 feet and filled the Orinocos with leaves in a caged net.

I left the basjoo as is and the thing is putting out new leaves!

So I have to say that it is more cold hard than the orinoco but the growth was real strange this year.

Anyway, we are looking at weather in the low 60s coming up. Should I remove the leaves from the Orinocos so they can breath or it doesnt matter?

Thanks all,

-Chip
