I have a small banana tree that has gotten black sigatoka over the summer. I have been treating with Captan fungicide 50% WP for approx 4 weeks. Disease has appeared to slow down but is on each new leaves as they are sprouting from stem. I was told to cut down to stem and leave only 12 inches above ground. I have wrapped the stem with garden bed fabric that has been soaked in Doconil. My question is how do I ensure that the Sigatoka does not start infecting new leaves when they begin to grow? Or is there anything else I need to do? I have it in a pot, indoors, near window. I do not water but every other week but ground is staying moist. ANY help would be greatly appreciated because I am new to banana plants!

Best bet if that's what you really have,is to throw the plant out.

I second that unless its a rare type or somthing then just let it go there not that expencive and you will spend more money fighting the problem than just buying a new plant

It's probably not black Sigatoka unless you got it from an area where that is common. It's not real common in most parts of the us.
