Pacha Nadaan, perhaps best banana for cool climates

banyan

This is a picture of my last bunch of Pacha Nadaan. While not a great bunch by any means, this season has been exceptional.

I have done a major house renovation over the last 2 years, and my bananas have been totally neglected. This particular bunch ripened in late winter during an unusually cool winter season, which in turn was preceded by the longest period of drought we have seen in this part of this country for 125 years. My plants have not been watered or fertilised for two years, they have not had any weed control, and no clump management. As well as that, this particular bunch grew under total shade as the clump was totally covered by a Kennedia macrophylla vine (think Aussie version of an evergreen kudzu).

All my other 23 cv.s of banana either died completely or suffered badly in the 2 years of neglect. In this context I think I have selected the best banana for my mild/cool oceanic temperate conditions.
