Edible fruiting bananas (seedless hybrids of Musa) are a tropical annual and a bulb for that matter. So calling them a tree is way off! Think of them as a giant daffodil whose flowers set fruit. The bulb (or more properly the corm) expands during growth and also sends out rhysomes that develop new corms. So a pot can be problematic or at least is tedious. A 15 gallon pot is the smallest I would consider.

The leaves of Musa are born out of the center of the stalk which we call a pseudostem. The leaves initially point straight up and then gradually lower. So a "dwarf" banana in a pot with a 4'-5' pstem sending out 4' leaves (including leaf stem) will require an 11' ceiling. There are "miniature" fruiting bananas such as ultra-dwarf Cavendish that are manageable under a 9' ceiling. Note that the fruit is also miniature.

I know that HPS is popular among indoor growers but it is a mediocre light source for plants. The 8-bulb fixtures of 4' T5 HO or VHO daylight (6500 Kelvin) bulbs are a much better choice and cost less to operate.

For fertilizer I recommend something with NPK ratios of 2:1:3 - for example 6-3-9, 10-5-15, 16-8-34.
