New to bananas...

Hey guys, i just bought a truly tiny banana plant from hirts gardens (website). it came in decent condition. although the it came with a little pup on the side that was broken so i just got rid of it. The pup that is. Some of the leaves on the main plant are partly dry and dead looking, just on the end half of the leaves. What will happen to these? will they wither and fall off and regrown? Also sticking out of the top of that plant almost vertical is a long green curled up like a burrito thing. This is a leaf right?

Also if anyone knows anything about this plant, how big will the bananas get and when should i expect them? Im growing it inside and its about 7 inches tall.

The leaves that are dry will eventually fall off. New leaves grow from the center and the center only. Thats the burrito looking thing! I dont know much about this plant except they grow to only a few feet. They might not be the best for fruit, because usually the geneticlly engineered bananas arent the best at fruiting (but probably will when the time is right). Keep it in a nice sunn spot with good soil. They have to go out in the summer if you want to see some noticable growth though. Gradually adjust it to full sun, the leaves will burn right off if you put it in sun right away. Once the leaves get used to the new and much warmer light, it will love it and grow like crazy. It probably wont make any babies until it goes outside though.

I havent really had any luck keeping mail order bananas alive, but im good at keeping non-mail order bananas healthy and so I keep on trying.

Good luck and happy new year!

Thanks for the response. I have it under a plant light now for the rest of the cold season and it's doing well. The burrito looking thing has unwrapped and is lookin pretty good.
