Banana indoors

Pat Sheinman

a friend gave me a "pup" from her banana plant. It is about 2 feet tall including leaves. The stalk is about 3" across at the base. She was growing it in a sunroom. Unfortunately, I don't have a sunroom so wherever I put it in my house will undoubtedly have less light than what it is accustomed to. I've had it for about a month- originally I had it in our master bathroom which has a skylight but as we get closer to winter, the skylight (which is on the north east side of the roof) does not allow as much light in as it does in the summer. I recently moved it to my kitchen which has a southwest exposure and i hoping that will give it sufficient light thru the winter. Any information re: how to water, fertilize, etc. would be helpful. I live in the Phila. area (not sure of my zone) but an also curious if I can move it outdoors in the spring/summer. Thanks.
