Orinocco Fruit

When is the best time to pick the orinocco's bananas? I thought I read that the fruit had to ripen on the tree, but it didn't last long when we did that.

Thanks in advance for your help.

We have cut our when the fruit looked plump and less angular. Also when the skin loses the smooth complexion and turns blemished is another clue it is getting ready.
