bees Starving?

I am a 1 yr beekeeper with 4 hives I am concerned that 2 of my hives might be starving for lack of enough stores for the winter here. I have no feeders in the hive as I believed the honey that was present in the top deep was enough. Upon opening the hive top there was no obious honey in the deep as the bees were clustered through 5 of the 10 frames. the hive seems very light. the winters here are generaly mild, 50's daytime 30's night. I don't want to lose them what emergency measures can I take. I have books that give info but it seems I should have prepared for this in the fall.

It looks like you could feed them if there is no nectar and stores are used up!... warmer winters
can deplete stores allot sooner, here up north I don't have to worry about.
I would take a frame out and put a frame feeder in and fill with syrup.
