4 dead hives -- need advice on starting again

Unfortunately, we weren't here last year, and my daughter watched the place for us. The bees weren't really given much attention, and no surprise, none of our four hives made it through the winter.

It's odd, though, because there was a lot of honey left in all hives, they were fed and didn't eat it. None of the dead bodies are even in clusters, just random dead bees all over the place.

We've got four new sets coming in early April. What should I do about the hives? Just let them clean them up? Take them all down to one hive body, of course.

What else should we do?
