Where do you live? Location does factor into a response. Though, in all likelihood, your bees are simply regular docile bees which were mishandled. This is what I'll assume. If you go out a day or two later and they specifically chase after you, then, perhaps you have something different.

These hives should not be right where your daughters hang out. If a person stands right in their flight path it would not be a surprise to get an occasional sting. But otherwise, they probably don't pose any real threat. When I was a teen, we had an acre and three to five hives on it. The neighbor lady would walk her dog within 15' of the hives, every day, and she never had a problem.

I'd recommend that you contact a local bee keeper and arrange for their care. You could sell or give them to him/her, or perhaps, if interested, they could teach you to care for them (and raise your own honey). At any rate, they need to be cared for.

You probably just popped off the lid using neither smoke nor sugar spray. In such a situation it is very understandable that the bee become aggressive. Don't lose heart.
