Bees in the snow

I've been keeping bees for a very long time, and this is not a new issue, but it always bothers me in the winter to see dead bees who flew out in the winter, only to die in the snow a few feet from the (reduced) hive entrance. Has anyone else thought about this? I've left the hives alone some years, and wrapped bubblewrap around them some years, and it doesn't seem to matter.

It's not a lot, but there's a couple dozen out there. I wish they'd stay indoors!

I know the feeling....I was out today and looked, all seemed to be OK except one hive had ALLOT of dead bees
at the entrance.

Think of it like this,...it's normal that bees are dying, they die all year round, it's just we don't see them laying around when the snow is gone and they can fly away from the hive.
I'm pretty sure, some healthy bees fly away from the hive when it's too cold and die, some fly away from the hive when old or sick and the time has come.

Thanks Konrad. That's a good way to look at it. I was about to install indoor plumbing! ;>

I checked mine too yesterday and found the same thing. One hive more than the other but nothing more than usual.Made sure the ventilation openings were cleaned out, gave them all a pat on the head and left them to do what they do .
