No, Konrad, this little eagle eats grasshoppers, praying mantis and little birds that eat drones around the hives. The hedge hog eats ill bees. And every one eats mole cricket like that

Several years ago - about 15 or so to be exact, I had the idea to start some bee hives in our local Anza Borrego desert area, where we had a winter trailer.

All went well, the hive was active and multiplied well - despite my being an absentee landlord. Then one day, I came to see them - wha-happen??? A meltdown.

A neighbor said that a desert iguana (then more plentiful) had stationed itself next to the landing platform of the lowest brood box and sticking out his tongue, slurped up the returning bees, one by one, until they were exhausted.

I now have bees in town - a smaller hive - and I see the jay birds getting lucky occasionally. The problem with that is - if the hive decides to attack, even innocent folks (like me working in the yard) may become targeted.

Lots of fun tho - and the pollenization and honey are great - good environmental experiences as well.
