weeds around hives

A beekeeper was relating how he cut grass and weeds around his hives with a minimum of stings. I wonder if I can safely use Roundup around the hives without harming my bees? I could spray the area before placing the hives so there would be a minimum of active chemical remaining, or am I kidding myself?

I read some people use it,.. not me.
It's not a problem cutting grass at sunset when bees are home.

Your right, I plan to do most of my hive inspections after dark when the bees aren't active. I may even use red cellophine on my flashlight so as not to wake them up.
