Attracting bees for my garden

| I am a total newbie, with almost no knowledge of bees. My main interest is to attract the bees for pollination. I have grape vines, a peach tree, a pear tree and my vegetable garden. First off, I don't know if I need mason bees, bumblebees, honey bees, etc. At this point, I'm not looking to get into a hive, or at least not yet. I have been told, I can build a simple "bee house" from various materials, depending which bees I want. I could drill some holes in wood. I could use a cofee can. I could use straws. I could use bamboo. This seems all well and good, but which one do I need and what would be the directions to make it? Thank you. |

If I was you, I would drill all kind's of holes into wood, perhaps porous, half rotten wood, things like, material what our native bees would find in the wild, hang them up on trees walls etc. This way you will have some bees what stick around your area. Also, make some nesting sites for bumble bees, you should find ideas on Google, I had some attracted by a little box, see video link. Konrad |

| The more varieties of bees (honeybees, mason, miner, hover, etc.) you can attract, the more types of pollinating they can do. Not all bees pollinate the same blossoms. You might find suggestions and information at the Xerces site. For more bee and pollinator links, feel free to visit my Bee Sanctuary blog. Good luck and hope you attract many bees! :-D Kris |
