Gardening for Bees

I liked the UC Berkeley site, but need more information.

How do I plant a garden that is more bee and butterfly oriented, honeybees in particular?

Is scattergardening (seed mix spread and allowed to grow however) a good option, or does it need to be more organized and 'patchy' with various types of flowers?

I want the bees back!!
